A Glimpse Of Konnyaku
Konnyaku, or Konjac Gum, is categorized as an Asian tradition as it has been used for centuries as a medicine as well as food. It was also used as a traditional remedy to help with an upset stomach or to clean the bowl due to its function in normalizing intestinal disorders.
At the present time, it has been scientifically proven to help increase health conditions. It is especially used to prevent adult diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer, constipation and many more. As it is very low in calories and full of dietary fiber it does indeed act as a healthier food alternative.
Nowadays, it is also a very integral part in Japanese cooking and it is used in a lot of popular dishes such as oden and stews. In 2002, the first export activity from Japan was to Singapore and it continually expanded to many other countries.
There are several contributing factors of konnyaku usage, such as the more we use konnyaku the more chewy the texture is going to be. Impacted by its content and benefit, the konnyaku price is estimated 2x the price of other thickening agents. This is also the reason why we want to develop it locally and to help make it accessible for more people and wider markets.
